💸Wage and Pension💸
At West Metro Fire-Rescue District, you will be paid for all your time being trained and calls you respond to. We understand the amount of time that is taken away from family and from work and in exchange, an hourly pay is given to those who serve their community as a West Metro Firefighter. A yearly pension is also given to our firefighters when good time is met. Other details and questions can be directed to Chief Nelson @ jnelson@westmetrofire.com

💪Physical Ability Needed💪
Chicago Fire, 911, Seattle FD. These are all shows that are great to watch but don't accurately depict what a West Metro Firefighter does on a weekly basis. We believe in the concept of working as a team, therefore no one person needs to carry all the weight themselves. Literally and figuratively. We need people who are mentally and physically capable of handling this job, but we don't need a Hercules. Tacoma FD is the more accurate show to watch if you wanted a depiction of who we are and what we need you to do. There is a agility test that needs to be done before hiring and have a video attached soon so you can get the idea of what that looks like. ⬇⬇⬇

FAQs-Hiring Process
-
Yes! You are paid for every hour you work, train, or meetings involving the fire department.
-
Part-time. For most of our firefighters, this is a second job. Balancing family, main job, and this job can be difficult but very rewarding.
-
Your first 8 months involves alot of time training and learning the ropes. After that, the time commitment goes down a bit but you can expect to be in trainings every Tuesday, Thursday and some Saturdays to start. All at night time by the way.
-
You will eventually be able to drive the firetruck, but that isn’t until you pass Fire Apparatus Operator 18 months into your training.
